Finding Joy in Exercise

Jumping Rope, a Simple Exercise
Jumping Rope, a Simple Exercise

Let’s face it, even though we all know how important exercise is, most people do not find joy in exercising, and some even feel like it is a chore or a mundane task.
The key is to do something that you love. Throwing a Frisbee with the family, not only brings you closer to your loved ones, but is a great way to get your blood pumping.
How about jumping? Rope, that is…
Double Dutch is playing jump rope with two ropes and one or more people jumping simultaneously. This involves at least three people total, one or more jumping and two turning the ropes. While the jumping-rope is going on, the two people turning the ropes often recite rhymes in rhythm. An example:
“Ice cream soda pop cherries on top,
how many boyfriends have you got?
Is it A, B, C, D,…”
You can buy a double dutch jump rope online for less than $10.
Video Game Workouts:  Exer-games are video games that get your whole body moving.
Nintendo Wii, X Box Kinect and  the PS3 Move all got great reviews on myfitnesspal.com.  Exer-gaming would be great for the whole family and create some fun memories.
Playing active video games is comparable to mild to moderate physical activity (like walking or casual bike riding), according to a review in the journal Pediatric Exercise Science.
Remember: Know you limitations.  If you are new to exercise, talk to your physician, start off easy and work up to more difficult moves.  Don’t forget to stretch before and after exercising.
